Billionaire retail tycoon Philip Green has given £4.25m to support the work of Jewish Care.

The donation is the largest single amount the charity has ever received and will make a major impact to Jewish Care's annual running costs which are around £46m.
 
According to the Jewish Chronicle, the donation was made in December but has only now been made public.
 
"It is tremendous news,” said Jewish Care chief executive Simon Morris. "This is exactly the kind of support that we need."
 
Green, who is said to be worth over £3bn, owns high street stores including BHs, Top Shop and Burton is currently involved in a multi-billion bid to buy Marks and Spencer.
