An Israeli security minister says he has "no doubt" there are Jewish extremists who have already decided to try to kill Prime Minister Ariel Sharon or other top officials to stop Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip.

Speaking on Israeli television Tuesday, Tsachi Hagnebi said he is concerned such extremists might act once the government begins removing Jewish settlements.

Mr. Sharon plans to remove some 7,500 settlers from their homes in the Gaza Strip and another 500 from the West Bank. Most Israelis support the withdrawal, but many settlers are adamantly opposed to the plan.

In 1995, an ultra-nationalist Jew opposed to peace talks with the Palestinians assassinated then-Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
