Why is Shabbat regarded as a day of delight?
There are many delights in this world: there are physical pleasures, emotional joys. THere's the deep pleasure you get from doing the right thing. Above all those pleasures is the pleasure of connection to God. Imagine if you could be in the presence of God for one second. A totally overwhelming inspiring experience. THat's what we try to do on Shabbat. All our lives we try to emulate God and behave like Him. On the day that He rested, we refrain from any creative work. It's the day we most be like Him. It's also a day to reflect on our spirituality. We have time to ask the questions: what am I living for? am I spending my days the way I ought to be spending them? what can I do to improve the way I live my life? Our delight is in growing as human beings, and fulfilling our potentials to the best of our abilities.
