Arrest in Bushey

British police have gained another week to question nine terrorist suspects detained last week in raids across Britain including a man from Bushey in Hertfordshire.

A court has granted London's Metropolitan Police until August 17 to hold the nine, who were among 13 men detained in a sweep reportedly linked to an arrest in Pakistan and terrorism alerts in New York and Washington.

One of the men, Abu Eisa al-Hindi, is suspected of being a senior al-Qaida operative.

Under British anti-terrorism laws, police may obtain an extension to question suspects for up to 14 days without charge.

Police have already released two from the group and two others remain in custody for non-terrorism charges.
