The family of a north London solicitor who has disappeared in Nicaragua have appealed for help in finding him.

Nicholas Roth, 28, from Belsize Park has been missing since last Wednesday after setting off to scale the Maderas volcano with 23-year-old American Jordan Ressler.

His mother Suzan, from Totteridge, said: “It is exceptionally worrying but we are trying to be positive. His friends tell us that if anyone can get out of a problem it’s Nick and the more I hear that the more positive I become."

Nicholas, who works for city law firm Shearman and Sterling, is an experienced traveller who flew to Nicaragua on November 13 for a three week adventure holiday.

His brother Nigel added: "We have been told the most likely scenario is that they got lost in the bad weather and became disorientated and cannot find their way back. Nothing more sinister than that."

According to reports, a local innkeeper raised the alarm when they did not return by Saturday while a rescue team has discovered the remnants of a camp believed to be used by the pair.

Nicholas's father Brian, an accountant has flown out to help in the search along with Jordan's parents, Vivien, an artist and Jeffrey, a lawyer from California. The Resslers are active members of their local Jewish community with Vivien being a founding member of the Jewish Women's Foundation of San Diego.
