Graves at Rainsough
A Jewish cemetery in Manchester has sustained substantial damage to 70 gravestones. The Rainsough Jewish Cemetery in Prestwich had 70 stones pushed over and damaged which will cost atleast £70,000 to repair.
Police are investigating the incident which was discovered on Thursday morning and are being helped by the local community as well as the Community Security Trust.
Apart from the damage caused to the stones, no daubings were put onto the stones.
A spokesman from the Community Security Trust said: There have been nine incidents involving the damage and desecration of headstones at Rainsough Cemetery since 1990. The damage caused to these headstones is extensive. If anyone has any information we appeal to them to contact the Police or the Community Security Trust as soon as possible.
