Want to get the news direct from Israel? A new service that takes the main headlines from leading Israeli TV station Channel 2 News and then broadcasts them on the web in English has gone live.

JerusalemOnline is the brainchild of two Israelis - Doron Landau and Itai Green - who want to show the world what is happening in Israel and let viewers get access to it first hand.

Currently, JerusalemOnline offers just a three minute main news broadcast that goes out at 11pm Israeli time, but there are plans to expand the service.

"We are talking to backers so that we can offer more than just news such as music and other programmes which will be made in Israel but broadcast in English," Green told SomethingJewish.

"We want to connect Israel with English speakers all around the world so they can get information direct from Israel," Green added.

The service is free to use with viewers encouraged to sign-up to its mailing list.  The list allows subscribers to be notified when the news is ready to view in English.

Green says there are no plans to charge for subscriptions with the service being supported by advertisers and sponsors.
