Jewish Book Fair
Warsaw Jewish Book Fair
Jewish Book Fair

Despite the great tragedy that Jewish Poland has suffered first under the Nazis and then under communism, the revival of Jewish life continues.

The last few years has seen its capital Warsaw become an integral part of the global Jewish arts and culture scene.

From Jewish film events and music concerts, Warsaw is emerging from years of nothing happening to a plethora of great arts and cultural programming.

As well as music and film events, the other great annual happening is the Warsaw Jewish Book Fair.

Now in its eighth year, it will be taking place from September 18 to September 21. Admission to all events is free.

Among the highlights of the fair,  which sees writers from around the world coming to Warsaw are:

Jewish traces in James Joyce’s Ulysses - Piotr Paziñski editor-in-chief of Jewish Polish publication Midrasz has written a book all about James Joyce's classic Ulysses. The Labyrinth and the Tree explores these Jewish connections.

Yiddish at the beginning of 21st Century – prejudices and chances - a look at what Yiddish means today. A group of people including Ewa Geller, a Yiddish philologist and translator will discuss and debate the topic.

Is there a Jewish art in today Poland? - a discussion examining Jewish art.

This event and the previous seven are an important part of the Jewish arts calendar, so certainly well worth supporting.
