Breaking your fast

Here at SomethingJewish, we're looking forward to Yom Kippur. Hard as it may seem, a full day of fasting actually gives you something to look forward to afterwards. That is, breaking your fast with some great food. So here's some suggestions on how you can break your fast this year, before you have your main post- Yom Kippur meal.

Remember Yom Kippur starts from Wednesday night and finishes on Thursday night.

1. Fill a glass with some pomegranate juice drink. If you're flash with the cash, then you can buy some Pom, imported from the States, which will set you back around £3 for half a litre. It's quite nice but as it's pure pomegranate does have a very sharp taste to it. Or, for around £1.30, you can get a litre of Pomegreat's Pomegranate Juice Drink. While not being 100% pomegranate, it is at least at third packed with this great fruit, with no added sugar. The pomegranate is a fantastic fruit that is good for your heart and blood circulation.

If you've ever tried making it fresh yourself, you'll know what a tricky task it can be, so prepared juice drinks are an easy way to get all the goodness without the mess.

2. Have some honey cake. We're still in the New Year, and breaking your fast with a slab of honey cake is a nice to way to do it. Osem makes a delicious prepared cake, for under £2, which is moist and delicious.
Just the right amount of honey and perfect with a cup of tea.

3. Make a date with some dates. Whether they're from Israel, Iran, Syria or Egypt, Middle Eastern dates are among the best in the world, though Californian Medjool are equally good.

Whatever you break your fast with, wish you well over it.
