The Board of Deputies will spend the coming weekend in Edinburgh sharing a Shabbat with the local synagogues and joining together on Sunday for a Plenary meeting at Edinburgh City Chambers.

The annual weekend spent as guests of a regional community will bring many Deputies to Edinburgh to share services with Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation and Edinburgh New Synagogue. Shabbat afternoon will be spent on a walking tour to Holyrood Park, whilst on Saturday evening Deputies, their families and the local Jewish community will be treated to an evening of traditional Scottish entertainment including pipers and Scottish dancing – accompanied by abundant drams of whisky.

The Board will also be delighted to welcome Sir Malcolm Rifkind KCMG QC and Margaret Curran MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Social Justice, who will address the Board Plenary on Sunday morning.

Board Director General Neville Nagler commented: “It is always a pleasure to relocate the Board to one of our regional communities for the weekend. It will provide an opportunity for Deputies to share an enjoyable Shabbat together and allow the Board to meet with the local Jewish community. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and with such a busy and diverse programme, I am sure it will be a delightful experience for all the Deputies who are attending.”
