The Board of Deputies represented the Jewish community at yesterday’s official memorial service for victims of the Bali bombings last October.

Director General Neville Nagler attended the special service, which took place in Southwark Cathedral in the presence of HRH the Prince of Wales.

Neville Nagler commented: “This was a very emotional occasion. Candles were lit for each one of the 26 victims who were British, and each member of their families was given a Balinese orchid while a gamelan orchestra performed an ethereal Indonesian ballad. The service underlined the waste of life and devastation caused by mindless terrorism. As the Bishop of Oxford emphasised in his sermon, the defeat of terrorism requires belief in the values for which we stand and confidence in the human spirit.”
