Rabbi John Rayner
A collection of sermons and lectures of the late Rabbi John Rayner is being published in print form to remember and celebrate his work.
The Liberal Judaism rabbi, died September 2005 and was the honorary life president of the organisation in a career than spanned more than 50 years.
Signposts To The Messianic Age published by Valentine Mitchell provides those who knew Rabbi Rayner with memories of him, while also reaching out to those who are new to his writings and teachings.
"John Rayner was the towering intellect, inspiring teacher, and sensitive pastor of the Liberal Jewish movement," said Liberal Judaism chief executive Rabbi Danny Rich. "His physical presence is sorely missed but his influence abides."
The book has also won rave reviews from the academic community. "Is a modern guide for the perplexed, reconciling reason and religion in our global age. said Dr Brian Klug of St Benets Hall, Oxford.
"In his sermons John Rayner addresses timely issues with clarity, honesty and compassion, and in his lectures he brings the same qualities to bear on some of the deepest and most intractable questions facing Jews today," added Professor Nicholas de Lange DD, Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge.
