SYMPATHY FOR FRENCH RABBI IN KNIFE ATTACK

Last updated: 2003-01-07

The Board of Deputies extended its sympathies yesterday to Rabbi Gabriel Farhi, head of the Mouvement Juif Liberal de France (Jewish Liberal Movement of France) who was attacked in his synagogue on Friday evening.

The Rabbi, who was stabbed in the abdomen, is now convalescing at home. Rabbi Farhi’s car had been burnt some days prior to the attack, and on the morning of the attack he had received hate mail threatening his life.

In his letter to Rabbi Farhi, Director General Neville Nagler wrote: “The sympathies of the British Jewish community are with you during this difficult time. Now more than ever, it is imperative that European Jews stand together for the protection and security not only of Israel but also for the world Jewish community.”
