Officers of the Board and other Jewish communal leaders including Lord Janner QC will deliver a letter addressed to President Assad at the Syrian Embassy, 8 Belgrave Square, London at 2.30 tomorrow afternoon concerning Syria’s support of terrorist organisations and the President’s own highly inflammatory antisemitic rhetoric.

The letter will also call upon President Assad to pass details of the whereabouts of the missing Israeli servicemen to the British Government; will ask for his commitment not to make further antisemitic comments; and will also urge the President to apply his recent pledges to the UN to play an active part in the fight to eradicate terrorism by removing his own domestic support of terrorism.

The letter states: “It is our hope that in the future Syria will become a contributor to international peace rather than an arbiter of division, hostility and mistrust. It is the genuine hope of the Jewish community that your visit to the UK marks a turning point in the stance of the Syrian government and media towards Jewish people.”
