Reform Jewish youth movement RSY-Netzer is to send three full tours to Israel for the first time in five years this summer sending 117 teenagers to the country.
In recent years, due to unrest in the region, the number of tours going out has dropped. In 2005, tour tours went, while in 2002 and 2003 only one tour went compared to eight tours in 2000 and five tours in 2001.
"We are delighted that our tours are full. This is a real sign that young British Jews are ready to re-engage with Israel," said Charlie Gluckman, mazkir (national director) of RSY-Netzer. "RSY-Netzer is glad to be able to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to Reform Zionism and the Israeli people."
As well as the summer tours, RSY-Netzer says more than 17 students will also spend their gap year out in Israel from September 2006 as part of its Shnat Netzer programme.
