Over 100 11 and 12 year-olds belonging to the United Synagogue's Tribe group have attended a special shabbat weekend at Carmel College in Oxfordshire to enable them to connect and bond with other.
Tribe, which is tasked with reaching out to young Jews across the UK and to involve them in community events says the Bnei Mitzvah weekender was one of it most successful projects.
"Over 100 of our members have enjoyed an inspirational weekend and it was hugely satisfying to see our teens enjoying the Shabbat experience when many have never done so before," said Rabbi Andrew Shaw, executive director of Tribe. "At Tribe we are convinced that if we begin to build a connection with our members from a young age we are more likely to have committed members who feel motivated to participate and contribute towards their communities."
Among the events on offer during the weekend was a shabbat explanatory service, discussion on issues and relating them to Judaism and a murder mystery to solve.
