Newspaper and magazine owner Richard Desmond is to be the new president of childrens and family charity Norwood.
The Northern & Shell media mogel whose portfolio of titles include the Daily and Sunday Express, Daily Star and OK magazine succeeds automobile industry magnate Sir Trevor Chinn.
"I am thrilled to accept the appointment as the next president of Norwood which is known for its vision, drive and energy - core values which I share and I intend to take a hands-on approach in my new role," Desmond said. "My primary focus will be to re-invigorate Norwoods donor base by encouraging younger supporters to come on board."
Desmond has had a long involvement with Norwood since the 1980s and in 2004 gave his largest ever donation to a charity donating over a million pounds to Norwood for a new school and learning centre in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
At the time he said: "I have decided to do this because I have worked and been involved with Norwood for some twenty years and know that this project will be life changing for many, many people."
