With 2008 marking the 60th anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel, plans are already being made as to how the year will be celebrated in the UK. Among the higlights is a  star studded event which will take place at London's Albert Hall in May 2008.

The Zionist Federation is partnership with the Israeli Embassy will be co-ordinating events and projects for Israel 60.

"I am delighted to be able to announce that the Zionist Federation will be taking the lead in planning Israel 60.  The Embassy is thrilled to partner with the Zionist Federation, its closest organisation, on this programme," said Zvi Heifetz, Ambassador of Israel at a reception to announce the launch. "We expect this year to be the most dynamic, creative and biggest celebration yet; honouring Israel’s independence and vitality at a time that is so vital to publicly express our support."

Zionist Federation director Alan Aziz is to become chief executive of Israel 60 which will see support also coming from JNF.

As well as events in London, Israel will be celebrated throughout the UK in other cities including Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester and Liverpool.
