Israel's Ben Gurion Airport has been rated the number one airport of its size for customer satisfaction in Europe.

The survey by Airports Council International found that travellers in and out of Ben Gurion rated it more highly than 39 other airports.

Among the most popular aspects of Ben Gurion in which passengers rated highly were its toilet facilities, flight information and retail outlets.

Overall, the Israeli airport was rated the fifth best in the world out of 77 airports across the globe.

In 2005, over 8,506,584 international passengers used Ben Gurion when travelling to Israel.

"We see the airport as a display window for Israel and I am happy that the world sees us in a positive way," said Gabi Ophir, chief executive of the Israel Airports Authority.
