British funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen is said to be stunned at missing out on any nominations for this year’s Bafta Film Awards.

Baron Cohen – previously the recipient of a Bafta TV award for Ali G – has received numerous award nominations in the US for the comedy hit Borat.

However, the film failed to gain a single nomination from his fellow countrymen, when the nominations for the Bafta awards were announced on Friday.

“Sacha is fuming," an insider told Jewish pop culture site Jewtastic. "At the very least he thought he would be nominated for Film Not In The English Language. But seriously, he thought he might be in with a chance in some categories, especially Screenplay and Actor – or even Make-Up And Hair."

The insider also revealed: “Over lunch on Friday, Sacha joked that Borat said the reason for his snub was ‘the Jews who control Bafta want to give his award to Jew people like Stephen Frears and Patrick Marber.’

Baron Cohen’s hoping for better luck on Monday night at the prestigious Golden Globes in Hollywood, where Borat is nominated for Best Comedy Film and he is shortlisted for Best Comedy Actor.
