A former editor of the Jerusalem Post as well as managing editor of The Jewish Chronicle has been appointed editor-in-chief of the English language version of leading Israeli news website Ynet.

Jeff Barak, 45, replaces Alan Abbey who left Ynet last year to form Abbey Content Services, a content outsourcing company.

"I worked with Jeff Barak at the Jerusalem Post, and he is a solid and professional newsman and editor with deep understanding of Israeli news and politics. I'm sure he will continue to develop what we started at Ynetnews," said Abbey.

Barak returned to Israel last summer after four years at the London-based Jewish Chronicle and has continued to report for the newspaper.

Ynetnews, which is from leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth claims one million unique users a month has set its sights at out performing rival Jerusalem Post.

"I'm very excited about joining Ynetnews and am looking forward to the challenge of turning it into Israel's leading English-language website," said Barak.
