Reform Welcomes Road Map

Last updated: 2003-07-29

A welcome was given to the acceptance of the ‘Road Map’ by both the Israeli Government and the Palestinian Authority at this year’s Annual General Meeting of the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain.

Resolutions suggested by the Assembly of Rabbis (the rabbinic leadership of the RSGB) were passed supporting the Government’s efforts in the Middle East, particularly with regard to the well-being of both the Israeli and Palestinian populations.

Cautiously in agreement with the desire to move towards a two-state solution, the RSGB recognised the need for compromises and concessions on both sides.  However, a firm and uncompromising commitment would be required, particularly by the Palestinians and the Arab world, to the existence of Israel as a Jewish State within secure and internationally recognised borders.
