A group to combat any potential boycott of Israeli doctors and its medical services has been launched under the auspices of the Fair Play Campaign Group.
Since launching late last year, Fair Play has coordinated and supported efforts in opposition to proposed boycotts of Israel and the new group aims to be fully proactive.
"The Fair Play Medical Group aims to prevent the field from becoming as hostile as wider academia," the group said in a statement.
The Fair Play Medical Group is supported by the Jewish Medical Association and aims to take a showcase and promote groundbreaking work of Israeli medicine and how it benefits Britain as well as helping those in the Middle East.
At its first meeting which was chaired by Lord Turnberg, those attending agreed the group would: "monitor portrayals of Israel emanating from within British medicine and organise responses where appropriate."
According to the group, concern was also raised over false recent reports that Israel has denied Palestinians access to its medical facilities.
