Mass bar and bat mitzvah
One thousand young Jews who immigrated to Israel from the former Soviet Union have celebrated a mass bar and bat mitzvah at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
The young teenagers who came from all parts of the Commonwealth of Independent States were joined by around 4000 friends and family as well as local dignitaries and politicans including former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mayor of Jerusalem Uri Lupolianski.
"It is your obligation to insure the continuity of the Jewish nation in their undisputed capital Jerusalem," said Netanyahu, who is chairman of the Likud party.
The special ceremony was organised by Colel Chabad who have been arranging the special event for 16 years and in that time 15,000 teens taken part.
