Jewish sporting organisation Maccabi GB is to be sponsored by UJIA following a decision by JNF UK to end its sponsorship after seven years and focus on sporting initiatives directly in Israel.
The move will see UJIA sponsoring Maccabi GB for an initial three year term starting from January 2008 which will also include the 2009 Maccabiah Games taking place in Israel.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our relationship with Maccabi GB, but now feel that the time is right for us to give directly to the sporting programmes," said JNF UK president Gail Seal. "We are in discussions with several sports organisations in Israel."
In a statement, Maccabi GB said it had been "working on an agreement for some time" with UJIA.
"Operationally the two organisations fit together perfectly and we will be looking to maximise all opportunities that this relationship offers," said Maccabi GB chief executive Martin Berliner. "Ultimately both organisations share a passion for Jewish continuity and Israel and this partnership can only be of benefit to our community."
UJIA chief executive Doug Krikler added: "This complements perfectly our existing partnerships with youth movements and the Union of Jewish Students providing clear entry points to our community for all our young people".
