A spontaneous collection at a UK Jewish Film Festival screening of My Mexican Shivah took place which helped to raise awareness and funds to help victims of the recent Mexican flood in the Tabasco region of the country.
More than £700 was donated after the London screening of the film which tells the story of the head of a family who dies while dancing at a Jewish theatre group celebration and the seven days of sitting shivah for him.
"The great thing about this collection was the spontaneity and the wholeheartedness of the audiences reaction," said Film Festival director Judy Ironside. "As well as showing the great generosity of our audience I believe this act of charity also shows how film can bring about a greater understanding and empathy between different cultures."
