Team GB to Israel
Maccabiah Games
Maccabiah Games

Maccabi GB has confirmed it will be sending two cricket teams to take part in next year's Maccabiah Games in Israel. The 18th Maccabiah Games will see the British delegation hoping to bring home a medal higher than the bronze they won at the last Maccabiah in 2005.

“We have assembled probably the strongest British cricket squad ever to travel to Israel," said manager Nigel Rothband. "Including three players with first class experience gives us a real chance of challenging for a gold medal."

Rothband added: "The team will play four warm up matches early next season against strong league opposition."

Jeremy Lawrence and Neil Myeroff, joint managers of the Youth Cricket team are also planning a formal regime to get the younger players in shape to compete against other nations. "We are very happy with the squad that we have selected. Cricket is probably the only sport in the Games that has to be played over such a long period during the day in the heat of an Israeli summer," they said. "The players will face an intense training regime in the months leading up to the games."
