High profile judge, Sir Gavin Lightman who retired earlier this year was the guest speaker at a Jewish Care event which highlighted the importance that legacies play in keeping the organisation alive.

Speaking in front of an audience of business professionals at accountancy firm BDO Stoy Hayward in central London, Sir Gavin talked about how legacy donations play a major role in how Jewish Care maintains its services.

"Jewish Care has the first claim on our resources with its responsibilities in providing care to those in need and to those who have no other equivalent resource," he said. "It is therefore our responsibility to alert the community to make charitable legacy contributions to Jewish Care."

Thanking Sir Gavin for attending the event, Jewish Care chief executive added: "Given the current economic climate Jewish Care is going to be even more dependent on its legacy donations which is worth a third of our voluntary income and is vital if we are to continue caring for the community."
