A former student of Manchester Metropolitan University has been elected as the next president of the Union Of Jewish Students.

Joe Tarsh, 21, who was previously chairman of Manchester's Jewish Society, scored a victory over fellow candidates Abigail Kay and Adam Charlton at this year's UJS National Conference.

He will take up his new post next summer.

A number of new national councillors were also elected at the conference, who will sit on Jewish societies at a number of universities.

New representatives were chosen for Nottingham and Leeds J-Soc, as well as those in Manchester and Sheffield.

Joe, who is from Radlett in Hertfordshire, promoted himself for the job via a YouTube campaign video - which saw him urging a variety of different people to vote for him.
