The daughter of a Jewish mother and a black father, Lisa Bonet first found fame in the mid-80s on The Cosby Show as Denise, one of the four daughters of Bill Cosby’s character Cliff Huxtable.

The show was a smash hit, running from 1984 to 1992, and Bonet even landed herself a spin-off show, A Different World, in which her character goes to college.

Away from the small screen, Bonet shed her squeaky clean TV image – and most of her clothes - when she starred in 1987’s film Angel Heart, and attracted further attention as the wife of rock star Lenny Kravitz (who is also half-black, half-Jewish). The pair tied the knot in 1987 before Kravitz became famous, and had a daughter, Zoe, the following year – but even though most of Kravitz’s album Let Love Rule was reportedly inspired by Bonet, the union didn’t last and the pair eventually divorced in 1993.

Since her marriage to Kravitz broke up, Bonet, now 40, has kept a lower profile, starring in a handful of little-seen movies, having a child with her new partner, yoga instructor Bryan Kest, and changing her name to Lilakoi Moon (although she still acts under the name Lisa Bonet).

Despite taking time away from the limelight, she’s recently made something of a comeback, with roles in Will Smith thriller Enemy Of The State, the John Cusack comedy High Fidelity and, earlier this year, Biker Boyz alongside Laurence Fishburne. “I felt like I was in good hands on that one,” she says. “and the invitation to be a part of it was flattering”.
