Antisemitic comments by Malaysian PM

Last updated: 2003-10-16

The Board of Deputies has condemned antisemitic comments by the Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad at the opening of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

Board Director General Neville Nagler commented: "We are shocked by the appalling comments about Jewish people made by the Malaysian Prime Minister yesterday. With antisemitism increasing across the globe, it is frightening that an elected world leader has expressed such dangerous and inciteful comments. Unfortunately such comments seem only to be characteristic of this particular Prime Minister. We are making our concerns known to the Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, and will be urging him to convey his displeasure to the Malaysian Government."
