Last updated: 2003-11-05
The Chief Rabbi, Dr Jonathan Sacks officiated at the induction of Rabbi Harvey Belovski, the new rabbi of Golders Green United Synagogue on Shabbat.
The induction service was held on Shabbat morning in the presence of Cllr Wendy Prentice, Deputy Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Brian Coleman, Cllr Anthony Finn, Dayan Gelley, Peter Sheldon, President of the United Synagogue and a number of local Rabbis. The Chief Rabbi addressed and inducted Rabbi Harvey Belovski. Following the service, a celebratory kiddush was held for the community.
The Chief Rabbi said:
Rabbi Harvey Belovski has already brought about an almost miraculous transformation in the Golden Green community. As well as his outstanding personal qualities as a scholar and pastor, he has introduced novel programmes, made the shul a child-friendly environment, and won the affection and admiration of the congregation. It was wonderful to see the synagogue where I began my rabbinical career so full of energy and warmth.
Peter Zinkin, Chairman of Golders Green United Synagogue said:
We were exceedingly pleased with the success of the induction of Rabbi Belovski and we were grateful for all the kind and supportive words said about our new rabbi.
