Well over 70 participants representing 30 synagogues attended the third US Cares seminar this year, held at Golders Green Synagogue on Wednesday, 19th November.
Rabbi Belovski, the recently appointed Rabbi of Golders Green, opened the evening with an inspiring DVar Torah. This was followed by a keynote address given by Leonie Lewis, Director, Community Development Group, United Synagogue, who focussed on the importance of keeping in touch with all our congregants particularly maintaining contact with the single and elderly members and especially those who do not participate in shul activities.
Lively workshop discussions included Meeting and Greeting members, recruiting and supporting volunteers, the importance of contacting members through regular telephone calls and how to encourage young people to volunteer for cares programmes in the synagogue.
Joy Conway, US Cares Co-ordinator, said:
The large attendance and the lengthy exchange of ideas following the workshops proved that caring for all our members young and old, is now a matter of concern in all our synagogues. It was most encouraging to welcome so many care representatives from different communities and especially from new groups in Chigwell and Radlett.
