EUMC report published by EJC

Last updated: 2003-12-03

The Board of Deputies has applauded the decision by the European Jewish Congress to publish the report on antisemitic attacks in the European Union commissioned by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC). The report, prepared by the Antisemitism Research Institute of Berlin's Technical University, was suppressed by the EUMC.

The EJC's press release can be read below and the EUMC's report can be found at:

Board President Henry Grunwald QC said: "The evil of antisemitism still exists at an alarming level in Europe, and there can be no valid reason for the decision of the EUMC to suppress publication of this report.   We applaud the decision of the European Jewish Congress to publish the report.   We in Britain acknowledge the stance taken by successive British governments to oppose antisemitism and all forms of racism, but there are lessons to be learnt by all governments from this report about the sources of the current wave of antisemitic incidents throughout Europe.   It is appalling that, at the beginning of the 21st century, Jews are still being attacked for no reason other than that they are Jewish.   Enough is enough."
