Charles Kennedy, MP, leader of the Liberal Democrats sends his Chanukah message to the Jewish community:
I know that Chanukah is a happy time for Jews and I offer the British Jewish community my very best wishes.
On the festival of Chanukah, my message to the Jewish people - as they remember the victory of the Jewish Maccabees - is that the symbols of Chanukah are light and freedom.
I hope that this year the lights bring happiness to the Jewish people throughout the World. May it be a year in which peace comes to the Middle East and to all the troubled places of the earth.
May the candles, lit for eight days, shine out with strength and brightness from windows throughout the world.
