Could you tell me what the shema is when it is said and any other useful information about this prayer?
The shema is the one of the most important prayers that a Jew says. It is a group of verses from the bible (Deuteronomy 6; 4-9, and 11; 13-21 and Numbers 15; 37-41).
The verses have a few themes: acceptance of God, acceptance of His commandments and His role in history.
The shema is said in morning and evening prayers, as well as just before going to bed. It is also said to a baby the night before his circumcision and by a Jew on his deathbed.
