SomethingJewish wrote to Lorna Reid, candidate for the Independent Working Class Alliance and asked the same questions it posed to other candiates about why the Jewish community should vote for them.
But despite numerous requests to get Ms Reid to answer the questions directly, Shan Sriharan from the IWCA could only say:
"Thank you for sending us your questions. Iâm afraid our candidate, Lorna Reid, will not be responding to them as our organisation does not classify the electorate on racial, religious or cultural grounds."
We tried to get the IWCA to clairfy some issues, or atleast offer some comments but Shan Sriharan would only add:
"Naturally as you will be aware the job of London Mayor is confined to London issues, and so has no real international dimension. But if your concern about the rising of anti-semitism is linked to the rise of the profile of the BNP in London and elsewhere be assured that the BNP are in our thoughts also. We have a very specific long term stratgey for countering support for the BNP in working class areas."
